Room “SABAT0”
The name of this room comes from “Belvedere Saturday”, the day before the Sunday after Easter.
On this day, in the square in front of the Sanctuary, the Battitura della Nzegna is performed to conclude the Patronal Celebrations.

Room “DOMENICA”
The celebration begins on Easter Sunday with the blessing of the battitore, who twirls the sacred banner before the Virgin.
The banner itself is a true ecumenical symbol of peace, because its fabric combines two traditions:
- the Mystical Rose, at the center of the flag, representing the Virgin in Catholic symbolism
- the triangles, also symbols of the Virgin in Orthodox tradition.

Room “LUNEDI”
The ritual continues on Easter Monday, in front of the Madonna and to the rhythm of drums, in Largo Machiavelli.
It is an acrobatic choreography of banners and flags that follows timeless styles, steps, and rhythms.
This is a male-only dance, performed in shirtsleeves before a crowd holding its breath and looking up to the sky, hypnotized as the checkered banner spins above.
The Marian banner floats in the air while two challengers compete to throw it higher and higher, as close as possible to the gaze of Mary.

Room “BELVEDERE”
About 3 km from the town, at an altitude of around 100 meters, stands the Sanctuary of Belvedere, built over a previous 16th-century structure.
The sanctuary forms an elegant covering for a complex system of natural karst caves and very ancient crypts, connected by a staircase of 47 steps.
It is a fascinating labyrinth where visitors traditionally recite a prayer at every step, arriving at the bottom with a spiritually purified soul.
In the upper crypt there is a 16th-century fresco of the Virgin, while in the deepest chamber, about 12 meters underground, there is a 14th-century fresco in Sienese Gothic style depicting the Madonna of Belvedere.
Mother and child look into each other’s eyes, pointing toward one another according to the traditional iconography of the Virgin Hodegetria, literally “She who shows the way.”
It is almost like a whispered message: love is the path to follow.

Room “SERRANOVA”
About 9 km from Carovigno, Serranova is a small agricultural village just a short distance from the sea, clustered around its elegant castle.
Built in the 17th century over a previous 14th-century structure, the castle served as the summer residence of the Princes Dentice di Frasso.
Today it still preserves its frescoed halls and a square tower that softens the façade, covered in ivy and American vine.
Serranova is also home to the visitor center of the nearby WWF Oasis of Torre Guaceto, guardian of a precious natural heritage.
